Fire Extinguishers

Get the Correct Fire Extinguisher

Home fires are often unpredictable and they can be deadly.  That's why you need a full-floor, multipurpose fire extinguisher on each level of your home.  Purchase only extinguishers that have been listed or certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory, such as UL, ETL, CSA and FM Approvals.  You'll notice letter on the extinguishers which indicate the type(s) of fires they can handle.

Recycle Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers contain chemicals unsafe for typical waste management plans.  Fire extinguishers under pressure can pose a serious threat of harm if disposed of improperly in your regular trash so they must be recycled and disposed of properly.

Disposal of used or expired fire extinguishers at a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event is the first option for safe disposal.  Click the link below to find Montgomery County's schedule for Household Hazardous Waste disposal events.
