The Borough of Lansdale is pleased and proud to announce that the Municipal Complex has been named a recipient of the 2017 Montgomery Award.  Given by the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the Montgomery Awards were created to promote the best in planning and design throughout the county.  The 2017 Award Winners were chosen form a pool of prominent nominees for their high quality work and commitment to enhancing the County.

As the hub for municipal activity including Customer Service, Code Enforcement and Police services, the eighty-three year old Borough Hall building required extensive renovation in order to continue as a home for those functions.  Throughout the public process of design, Borough officials and staff heard a strong desire from the public to not tear down an historic building within Borough boundaries.  As a result, architects designed a project to provide a unified building housing Police and Borough offices for efficient and coordinated operation of the Borough.

Through the use of a centralized public lobby serving as the heart of the new facility, the design focuses itself around a customer friendly organization strategy to promote proper service of the public’s needs including public meeting space, comfortable and private transaction spaces and a fully accessible facility.  As such, each building element, the Police Station, Borough offices and public meeting rooms link together to create a highly efficient, flexible and sustainable building to meet the needs of the Borough for years to come.  By rooting design within the existing Borough Hall facades, major attention was dedicated to preserving the historic context and appearance at a gateway location within the Borough.  “In a design that combined existing building facades with new construction, the project was complex involving unique nuances that would provide challenges to most,” said Assistant Borough Manager John J. Ernst.  “Every Borough staff member, contracted designer, engineer and construction member, took these challenges head on and used care and precision to create a finished product that not only looks good but more importantly will last.”

In addition to the Municipal Complex, SEPTA has been named a recipient of a Montgomery Award for the Parking Garage and Ninth Street Station projects within the Borough.
